Closing Session

LASSNet: Mapping the Future

Sunday, 11 January 2009

15.30 - 16.30, Seminar Room (CSLG)

Moderated by Pratiksha Baxi

LASSnet began as an experiment, following a conversation among fourteen people in December 2007 at the Centre for the Study of Law and Governance, JNU. The network has grown beyond our expectations, and we hope that it will continue to flourish. We invite you to reflect on the ways in which we can enable it to do so.

The final session of the conference, "Mapping the Future," is intended as a forum to discuss various issues, both theoretical and practical, about the future of LASSNet. Early feedback from you will help focus our inquiries and structure the session to make it as productive as possible. Please send your thoughts to Pratiksha Bakshi at lassnet [at] gmail [dot] com by January 2nd, 2009.

Here are some of the questions on which you might reflect:

We hope that the inaugural LASS conference will bring a great deal of critical energy to the field of Law and Social Sciences in the South Asian context. We also hope that it will remind us of the fact that useful conversations require meaningful connections: they require that we dismantle academic hierarchies, reduce our distance from social movements, and continuously engage in gestures of reciprocity at the institutional and individual level.
